Ovidiu Square

Let me take you back to Constanta, today, with this panorama taken in Ovidiu Square. You can see the History and Archaeology Museum and Ovidiu's statue.

The statue is one of the most important monuments in Constanta. It was made in 1887 by the italian sculptor Ettore Ferrari. An identical replica can be seen in 1925 in Sulmona (Italia). It is an homage brought to the great roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso ( 43 B.C.).

The History and Archaeology Museum was established in 1878 and in 1977 was housed at it's final location, the building in the panorama. It was built from 1911 to 1921, by the romanian architect Vasile Stefanescu. From 1921 to 1977 the building was the City Hall. More information regarding the museum, it's display and visiting hours can be found here.
